One of the things that perpetually dissapoints me about the Portland “scenes” is why I always see the -same- wonderful faces at events and gatherings. Perhaps it is because some but not all events offer a similar experience, music, DJs, décor… that appeal to the same niche of people.

My vision has always been to bring more good people into this community – and creating abundant vibes, energy, possibilities, prosperity and connections for us all to experience. I know ALL THE RIGHT PEOPLE is lurking ‘around here’ in the NW - they just need to be brought together and activated by a powerful enough catalyst.

I think THIS EVENT is OUR golden chance. Awakenings Native States is something truly different than has ever been offered since I’ve lived Portland: A whole new tempo, energy and diversity of ecological, cultural, spiritual and musical offerings. I am passionately committed to making this more than ‘another party’.

Being intimately familiar with some of the artists who are coming, I feel confident the intergalactic-class talent that Awakening Native States will be showcasing is powerful enough to awaken and enthuse top-quality people, and bring them into our community - IF ONLY THEY SHOW UP AND EXPERIENCE IT.

If you are reading this, it’s too late to back out – you are a critical part of the promotion team. The most important thing I think YOU can do is to dig ‘deep into the pockets’ of your own personal network, and invite people – and not just shyly or half-heartedly. Really twist some arms and persuade conscious people who are usually reluctant to come out for the “techno” or psy-trance events. Tell them that this is something different, THYE WOULD BE INSANE to MISS IT or believe anything else could compare, and that YOU FULLY EXPECT TO SEE THEM THERE, or else it will break your heart!

And we need more help in promoting/marketing this event! If you would like to help distribute flyers at other events, put up posters, or get the message out through other media channels.. such as the internet, radio, or print – CONTACT ME!

I need a couple of semi-partially-dedicated promotion volunteers, with just a few hours of spare time to work with.

Your assistance would be a rewarding way to help out and gain good Merit in by turning people on to something amazing, and help build a vibrant and nourishing NW community…

Thanks,
Brett

A neocultural foray into the past present and future of plants, people and the planet.
From science to mysticism, language to logos, from remembering ancestral roots to envisioning our future blooms.

Maybe our ancestors did not create the boundaries that separate us from the earth, from eachother, from spirit... Maybe we don't have to either. Here is a chance to rediscover the tools that can keep us connected to the earth, to eachother and to the parts of ourselves that we are taught to deny.

May we celebrate the true roots of community, togetherness and union. Let us rediscover a broader sense of community and togetherness to heal deep wounds ecologically, psychologically, emotionally and spiritually and to present new possibilities for living an engaged, aware, and responsible life on our planet in crisis. This event will blur the boundaries between symposium, art show and party; a new kind of event for a new kind of gathering space.

Here's a rough and developing schedule of events:

Friday:

7PM-7:30PM Pramod Parajuli (now a leading author on biocultural sustainability, Pramod grew up living with the land in a small Nepali village and tells ancient Nepali stories that reveal new ways to understand our relationship with the Earth. He started the Portland Institute for Leadership in Ecology, Culture and Learning) (www.piiecl.pdx.edu)
7:30PM-8PM Judy Bluehorse (a modern medicine woman and powerful activist for indigenous rights and culture, she teaches a course at a university in Portland called "sustainability education through a native american lens")
8PM-8:45PM Mark Lakeman. City Repair as a vehicle for applying the wisdom of our ancestors in Portland (www.cityrepair.org).
break
9PM-9:45PM Panel with Pramod, Mark and Judy.
10PM Ceremony
10.30PM Kan'nal (www.kannal.org) Perhaps the greatest undiscovered rock band of our times. This will be their first big show in Portland and it is sure to be a big hit. Imagine: Rusted Root meets Tool

Visionary Art Show (Gallery Space with limited canvasses and projected digital works)
featured artists: Jerod Knapp (www.jerodknapp.com), David Heskin (www.newskinstudio.com), Roman Villagrana (www.tribe13.org)

Local Downtempo 11PM-4AM

Saturday:
Qi Gong (Heiner Freuhauf???)
Community Brunch with live Kirtana (Sharanam's 108 Names for world peace) noon-2PM
Indigenous Voices: Wisdom of our ancestors 2-4PM (www.earthandspirit.org)

2005 Ambient Alchemy Tour! Experience a fantasia of extreme-cutting-edge musical performances, presented in the emerging genre of “Psychedelic Dub”. These future sounds have a majestic, orchestral quality that will seep deep into your inner landscapes, and awaken a panoramic vision of the future! Ambient Alchemy Tour 2005 features a “dream team” lineup with some of the most highly-regarded psychedelic downtempo producers on the planet, including:

SHULMAN (Aleph Zero, Isreal) - LIVE
Yaniv Shulman’s music is filled with evolving organic layers backed by rich harmonies, that delve deep into oceans of uncharted psychedelia. His latest CD, ‘In Search of a Meaningful Moment,’ astounded the ambient world by reaching an entirely new plateau of emotion and complexity. Shulman’s composition, production and remix skills have frequently drawn comparisons with Shpongle.

PHUTUREPRIMITIVE (Waveform Records, PDX/Eugene) - LIVE
Deep, darkish and downright *massive* tribal dub. An exqusite synthesis of sharp toothed synths, mind-bending effects, soulful vocals and odd time signatures. Phutureprimitive’s spine-tingling sound waves are known for giving goosebumps, and might even cause astral projections. His set at Boom Festival 2004 was a monster hit.

BLUETECH (Native State, Aleph Zero, B.C.) - LIVE
Dub drenched extra-terrestrial flower buds, with alchemical arpeggio stems, and IDM roots. Evan Bluetech has received worldwide critical acclaim, and played peak slots at major international festivals based on the strength of his magical alchemy dubs. Expect a soulful balance of warm, grounding, organic sounds with more mechanical & otherworldly ones.

Possible sunrise community dance ceremony blasting off into full on trancedance from 6- noon
